The weather is getting nice again here in Tennessee, the birds are singing, and a distant lawn mower hums. Yesterday and today we’ve spent quite a bit of time outside on the porch just soaking in the sun and light breeze. What a great weekend! I’ve also managed to get a ton of music in. I have a lyric that I’ve had for some time but could never ‘click’ with the chord progressions… that was until yesterday. It finally flowed and came out. Not only ideas for the chords for guitar, but some arpeggios, and also some keyboard ideas. Nothing recorded yet, but I’m getting the structure down which feels really nice. Creativity has always been an interest of mine and I’m a firm believer in not forcing it. Ideas will ‘percolate’ until they’re ready to emerge.
This morning I was able to run through the chords and got some additional rhythm patterns for a second section of the song. Exciting stuff to be in the creative flow. I did have to take a bit of a stop as we had a strange smell looming in our bedroom. We suspected this was the same problem we had about 6 months ago. Trusty screwdriver in hand, out to the AC unit I went. After removing the panel to the electronics I saw the root of the smell. A mouse. But not any mouse. A fried, extra crispy mouse that had crawled in and got zapped. Poor little guy, but after the careful removal the smell dissipated. Problem solved.
Another outdoor task that’s on my agenda for today is some weed removal in the driveway. Nothing exciting about that unless you get to use a torch!
Dinner today is looking at a simple truffle and mushroom pasta with some parmesan asparagus. I’ll get to that after the torching.
Back to the music. I currently have 29 song lyrics in various stages, but Bright Star is the one I mentioned above. Here’s a look at the lyrics. Music to come, so stay tuned.
Bright Star
Searching through the night sky
for that one special light
Hoping to find my way
Over the moon and beyond so bright
————
A million reasons
Looking for my bright star
Shine down on me
I’ll be where you are
————
It only takes one star to burn
Brighter
Hotter
Stronger
————
Stars burn out and fade to black
Not you though, you’ll always be back
Tomorrow just might be too far
No matter, I’ll be right where you are
————
It only takes one star to burn
Brighter
Hotter
Stronger
————
Feel the energy
Feel the heat
Feel the energy
Feel the heat
————
It only takes one star to burn
And that star is gonna be me
It only takes one star to burn
So bright, you cannot see
————
What’s your star?
Burn it bright
What’s your star?
Start tonight

Not much of a teaching or informational blog post, but one that’s a bit more personal. I’m sharing this with you to think about your own creative outlets. What gets you excited and passionate? What sparks that creativity in you?
