The Power of Collaboration: Reflections on a Change Workshop

As I sit here at BWI, waiting for my flight home, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey of the past few days. It’s been a whirlwind of learning, growth, and inspiration, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts with you on our change workshop.

On Wednesday, we had the privilege of attending a workshop led by the brilliant Jesse Farve titled “Change Champions.” It was a transformative experience that delved into the intricacies of people and processes, arming us with powerful tools like SMART goals, 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, and Driver Diagrams. But what struck me the most was the emphasis on choice and self-care—two often overlooked personal and professional growth aspects.

Thursday

Fast-forward to Thursday, when our Head of Finance and I had the opportunity to lead a problem-solving workshop. Finance and marketing playing nice (I know!). It was an exhilarating experience to witness cross-functional teams come together, identify challenges, and tackle them head-on using the tools we had learned. The energy in the room was palpable as everyone contributed their unique perspectives and innovative ideas.

One of the highlights for me was introducing my Lego communication exercise. It never ceases to amaze me how something as simple as building with colorful bricks can break down barriers and foster genuine collaboration. The responses and creative thinking that emerged from this exercise were truly inspiring.

As I watched the teams work together, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and hope. Individuals from different departments with diverse skill sets and backgrounds were united by a common goal—to improve our organization. The passion and dedication they displayed were a testament to the incredible potential that lies within each and every one of us.

Moments like these remind me why I love what I do. Seeing people come together, value each other’s perspectives, and work towards a shared vision is magical. It’s a powerful reminder that we can achieve great things when collaborating and opening our minds to new ideas and possibilities.

So, as I sit here reflecting on the past few days, I find myself filled with gratitude and excitement—gratitude for the opportunity to learn from and work alongside such amazing individuals and excitement for the future ahead. If there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that when we come together and harness the power of collaboration, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.

Until next time,

Batman… whoops… I mean John
